Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) – is strategically located in the lush greenery in the busy capital of Kuala Lumpur. With its turquoise-coloured domes, this majestic building flaunts its impressive features that were crafted by the artisans from Uzbekistan. Since its opening in 1998, this museum has developed and today, IAMM is one of the largest museums (Islamic Art) in Southeast Asia. The IAMM has over 7000 artefacts, an excellent library of Islamic-art books, galleries, etc. The various themed galleries exhibit the priceless treasures such as Islamic manuscripts, ceramic, glassware, metal works, textile, coins, and etc. Also, the Islamic Architecture Gallery also showcases the replicas of the famous building such as Taj Mahal of India and Amir Timur Mausoleum in Uzberkistan. The art objects on display range from the tiniest pieces of jewellery to one of the world’s largest scale models such as the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. Rather than focusing the complete attention on works of Persia and the Middle East, the museum has also stressed on Asia. Some of the gems of Southeast Asia, particularly China, India and Malaysia, are represented very well. In the 12 galleries of the museum, other elements of the collection are demonstrated in accordance with type rather than geographical origins. The architectural style of the museum is modern yet subtle consisting of the Islamic touch. Its iwan-style entrance is transformed into a ceramic tapestry, which edges a welcoming verse from the Quran. Batu Caves – A trip to the eastern suburbs of the city to observe the local way of life and traditional cottage industries. Silver-Leafed Monkeys – and long-tailed macaques are the main draw to the Melawati Hill. The significant difference between the silver-leafed babies as compared to the adults is that these babies have golden fur while the adults have dull grey colours. These monkeys are a delight; they are gentle and playful. The long-tailed macaques, on the other hand, are generally a little more mischievous and if you turn your back for a second – you’d never know what they might do. A gentle reminder to exercise precautions with these lovely and wild animals, which can be quite erratic at times despite having so much human interaction.
